Apple launches Clips as it bids for a slice of the Snapchat action

Apple’s Clips, its new app that lets users create expressive videos on their iOS device.

Summary: "App enables creative camera tomfoolery that Snapchat does so well, but without attached social network"
"Cloning Snapchat is the new brunch, which is the new black. Facebook did it, Instagram did it, even WhatsApp did it. But even so, it’s surprising today to see that Apple’s done it too."
A new app by Apple is cloning snapchat but in a different way to the others. Apple understands that social media isn't their biggest strength so there isn't a social media platform to the app. Light clips that are easy to make compared to imovie feature which is always easier on laptops so an app that creates something good to post on other social medias. But it does need to find originality before it can properly take off as snap chat's filters are constantly changing and that is recognizable by many non snap chat users too. it needs its "own calling card"

Key facts/ statistics;

  • I.e No Clips Stories; no ephemeral messaging; no new usernames to secure or QR codes to share.

My opinion:
It highlights the sheer influence snap chat is having on many industries and not just social media as a platform. There is just something to snapchat that these major players are finding very dangerous to their own success' highlighting how the rapid changes in NDM are hard for the major players to even keep up with. It also highlights the importance audiences place of the USP of products and quick and easy they are to use and share across platforms.  Even more so the importance of functioning correctly on mobiles as they become more and more important in day to day lives of users and media products must be compatible with our phones in order for them to be full successful.
