Ohio mother who taped son to wall on Facebook Live faces charges

The arrest is the second high-profile case this month of charges following a Facebook Live broadcast of a crime.

Summary:
Police say child is in custody after the woman live-streamed the two-year-old taped to a wall and said ‘now sit still’

The 18 year old mother tapped her 2 year old son to the wall for a full 15 minutes and claimed it was so she could tidy up the house. He can be seen to be crying throughout the live stream with him tapped to the wall and with tape over his mouth. Whilst watching this live stream someone called local authorities who then came to her house and took the child into custody and charged her with third degree felony on thurdday. 

Facts/statistics:

  • Rudolph’s arrest marks the second high-profile case this month of charges following a Facebook Live broadcast of a crime. 
  • chicago earlier this month, police charged four people with kidnapping, battery and hate crimes after they posted a video in which they bound and beat a person with disabilities
  • Over the last year, Facebook has struggled to remove or moderate videos of abuse, violence and self-harm on its platform
  • a girl killed herself quickly spread across Facebook this week, although it was not the original host, and last year Baltimore police convinced the company to take down a live-streamed standoffbetween a woman and officers.

my opinion: its crazy what ppeople would do for poularity on sites like that highligihting the need for censorship and gatekeers. These indivuals need to understand the implications of their actions and educated that likes and views arent everything which oindivudals nowadays seem to be forgetting with the rise of NDM. yes you can see there are other infelunces in this case however you can see the impact of the internet and social media as this isn't the first case.

I'm with you on the digital revolution, it's the lack of journalism  I can't face im-with-you-on-the-digital-revolution-its-the-lack-of-journalism-i-cant-face Summary:  A small US state community of New Hampshire newspaper ceased publication after 90 years, creates worries about the implications of a redcution in the numbers of news gatherers (i.e journalists). The closing down came about due to the increased production costs, despite trying to sell that paper off, no one seemed to want to buy it. Laconia, had two local news papers so people still have the free Laconia Daily Sun. The collumist, Arlinghaus, of New Hampshire Union Leader wrote an article with many interesting points.
